I have been a member of Toastmasters for almost a year. However, I have wanted to join for about 10 years. Why did I never join? Because of excuses. My favorite excuse was my kids. I even did a Toastmasters speech about it. You see Toastmasters for me is more than just giving speeches. It is also a therapy session. A place where I know my voice will be heard. In Toastmasters you can’t just go off on a random tangent. You have to organize your thoughts and you also have a specific amount of time to do so. You are also given responsibilities no matter how new you are . There is never an excuse, “I’ve never done this before”, “Great….now is your chance”. You won’t believe how many times I have heard that before. I have been the secretary for my club and now I have the most challenging job which is the Vice President of Education or VPE. I had no idea what I was in for, but I am up for the challenge. My husband respects my toastmasters days and I have gained so much confidence in my networking skills; although I am still working on my time management skills. If you have never been to a Toastmasters club I encourage you to check out www.toastmasters.org and check us out. It is more than just public speaking. It is about leadership and stepping up to the plate to accomplish things within your club.
