I have been a member of Toastmasters for almost a year.  However, I have wanted to join for about 10 years. Why did I never join? Because of excuses. My favorite excuse was my kids. I even did a Toastmasters speech about it. You see Toastmasters for me is more than just giving speeches. It is also a therapy session. A place where I know my voice will be heard. In Toastmasters you can’t just go off on a random tangent. You have to organize your thoughts and you also have a specific amount of time to do so. You are also given responsibilities no matter how new you are . There is never an excuse, “I’ve never done this before”, “Great….now is your chance”. You won’t believe how many times I have heard that before. I have been the secretary for my club and now I have the most challenging job which is the Vice President of Education or VPE. I had no idea what I was in for, but I am up for the challenge. My husband respects my toastmasters days and I have gained so much confidence in my networking skills; although I am still working on my time management skills. If you have never been to a Toastmasters club I encourage you to check out and check us out. It is more than just public speaking. It is about leadership and stepping up to the plate to accomplish things within your club.

Toastmasters Day!! Talking about YouTube

Toastmasters Day!

Today is my weekly Toastmaster meeting. I have missed a few weeks due to traveling but I am back. Today, I will presenting my first speech from my Advance Communicator manual. This is the manual you receive after achieving you first CC or Competent Communicator award. My topic will be one of my favorites…..YouTube!

I call myself a YouTube University alumni. I have learned everything for canning salsa to installing a thermostat into my home, all by watching YouTube. I am huge fan of it because I can look for everyday people and even well qualified companies to instruct me on exactly what I need to know. Even down to the product name a serial number!

I am always complimented on my topics when it comes to to Toastmasters because I am far from a boring, cookie cutter type person. My audience is a bit of an older group so I will have to do a little more breaking down of my topic than I would if I were talking to a group of teenagers or millennials but that is the challenge and beauty of Toastmasters.
